WHAT IS Sensory Processing?

Our eight sensory systems give us a sense of ourselves and our place in the world. They help us produce appropriate responses for different situations, tasks and environments. When sensory processing is well developed, it positively influences cognitive development, communication, self-regulation, motor skills, and interactions with the environment.

 Every person experiences sensory differences in varied ways, from heightened reactivity to certain sensations, seeking increased input, or appearing disinterested. They might struggle with emotional regulation, motor skills, daily tasks, attention, learning and social interactions but also display unique strengths, such as a love for movement and squeezy hugs. Understanding and accommodating these sensory variances is our expertise.

Children with learning difficulties may struggle with tasks that their peers find straightforward and may need additional or different support to help them learn effectively.  An Occupational Therapist (OT) can play a crucial role in supporting children with learning difficulties by focusing on their foundational skills.
